Therapeutic Yoga Coaching with Andrea

Sometimes, a group yoga class may not be enough for your individual needs. I offer private therapeutic coaching sessions for individuals who are looking for a holistic way to reduce feelings of stress, anxiety, sadness and loneliness. Together, we use the tools and practices of yoga to help you feel more calm, balanced, and joyful in your life.

My Philosophy

My philosophy on yoga and wellness stems from the yogic view that we are all born whole, perfect, and complete, but our life experiences, lifestyle choices, and environment can obscure our innate state of joy and wholeness. I am not here to heal you because you are already whole, perfect, and complete. The tools that I will offer to you in our work together are meant to help you remember and return to the health and wholeness that already resides within you.

My Own Healing Story

I lived with feelings of worry and anxiety for many years. As a child, I had an intense fear of being alone, and the vulnerability of falling asleep would keep me up at night. As a young adult, this fear and many other fearful stories kept me from living a life as full as I wished. After the birth of my adorable son, I experienced intense sadness that plunged me into the depths of despair.

Through the practice of yoga and other healing modalities, I was able to let go of these fearful and defeating thoughts, stories, and beliefs. After becoming a yoga teacher in 2005, I began teaching Yoga for Anxiety workshops to share some of the tools that had helped me to become a more calm, worry-free person.  In 2009, I went back to school to study social work, and in 2011 I graduated with an MSW in Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore. While studying social work, I worked with clients individually and in groups to teach them breathing, movement, and relaxation exercises to help them reduce feelings of stress and sadness in their lives. Although the work we will do together is not therapy,I am fortunate to have gained many valuable therapeutic tools from my study of social work methods.

Session Overview

In our coaching sessions together, you will learn yogic tools and techniques personalized to your individual needs and abilities. We will create a home practice that you can use to increase feelings of calm and joy in your life. Audio recordings of relaxation exercises, written instructions, and drawings will be used to help guide you in your home practice.

Our first session together will include time to discuss your medical and social history, your personal objectives/desires, and to formulate a plan for our work together.

With your permission, I can also work collaboratively with your other health care providers to create an integrative wellness plan for your optimal well being.

A therapeutic yoga coaching session is right for anyone who struggles with feelings of stress, excessive worry, fearfulness, difficulty sleeping, sadness, guilt, or loneliness. Everyone experiences these feelings once in a while, but if you’re having difficulty letting go of these feelings, yoga therapeutic coaching sessions can help.

If I am not the right person for you, I will provide you with suggestions of other practitioners who may be better suited to working with you.

Therapeutic yoga coaching sessions can occur in the comfort of your own home, or at a yoga studio in Gaithersburg, MD.  Cost varies depending on location and session length. Prices listed below are for in-home sessions within 10 miles of zip code 20850:

55 minute in-home yoga session for one person: $85

Pre-purchase of five 55-minute in-home yoga sessions (must be used within 2 months): $365
